Initially the reports were that Buck was included as an added salary dump by the Marlins, but if they’re giving money back the other way that doesn’t really make sense.

Based on that, as you said, it’s likely that they trade one of the two catchers. Most have speculated that it will be Arencibia, which would probably net them a larger return…but for whatever reason I feel like they might keep him and try to flip Buck. They wouldn’t get much in return for Buck, but it seems like the Jays like Arencibia enough to keep him in some role until d’Arnaud comes up, which may or may not be the start of the season.

If John Buck was taken on largely as salary relief, why pay the Jays to take him? But then I thought…maybe the Jays are looking to trade Arencibia, leaving Buck to start the first couple of months/however long it takes for D’Arnaud to be ready. That’s the only reason I can see for the 4 million being thrown in.
